Kick Your Clutter Habit With These 6 Tips

Clutter increases stress, complicates our lives, and makes a space feel untidy and disorganized. Clutter also makes it difficult to keep a house clean. Clutter is problematic, and that’s why it is important to get rid of it.

We understand that sentimental objects are hard to let go of, but clutter is clutter, and reducing it is the only way for your home and life to feel organized and cleaner. That said, here are a few tips that can help you prevent and reduce clutter in your home

Evaluate and Eliminate

The best way to reduce clutter is to simply discard it. The thought of treasuring sentimental things is sweet, but not practical.

So, when you finally decide to de-clutter, discard the items you no longer need and organize them in three piles, Throw away, Sell and Donate. Get rid of everything in the ‘throw-away’ pile immediately, and ensure that it doesn’t become garbage kept in your home.

Donate

Then, move forward with the “donate” box. You may be drowning in clutter while the other less fortunate ones are hardly making a living. So, do your bit, by regularly donating items that you don’t really use or need. Visit a homeless shelter and donate. You can also give some of the items to your friends and family in case they need something you are giving up.

A good rule of thumb is to discard everything that you haven’t used in over a year.

Sell

Your cluttered home could get you a lot of money. So, host a garage sale and display everything in the “Sell” pile to make some extra cash. Visit online auction sites, and sell your stuff there too.

If the items are sentimental but not useful, take a picture of it, frame it, and get rid of it.

Store your items

If there are items that are taking up a lot of space in your home and are only used occasionally, call reliable movers in Maryland and ask storage and moving pods costs.

Reliable moving companies provide amazing storage solutions at affordable prices. In fact, they send their movers in Fairfax, VA, to deliver storage pods at your address, making sure you get the best services possible.

That said, hiring storage containers to store certain items can free-up space for other essential things, like furniture, appliances, etc.

Organize your belongings

Once you have cleared your clutter, it’s time to organize the stuff you have so that your home looks neat and clean. Make use of the storage space that every room offers. Bedrooms and living rooms can benefit from storage island units, and bathrooms can benefit from narrow shelving made from small spaces. You can also invest in furniture that comes with storage.

Your garage is probably the trickiest room to organize. The same storage solutions that you use inside your home can be integrated into the garage: shelves, cabinets, walk-in wardrobe, hooks, totes, etc. Cleaning the garage and organizing stuff in it will help tame the clutter in your garage and the inside of your home.

Stop Shopping

Seriously, do not shop unless you have to.

Shopping could be your enjoyable pastime or your stress buster, but now it’s time to consider shopping as something you do when it’s necessary. Do not shop for leisure. Always make a shopping checklist before you leave the house, and shop only the items written on this list. This way, you could track your spending, and also make sure you are not buying anything you don’t need.

Practice Regular Purging

Lastly, make sure you get rid of things regularly. Try to de-clutter every month; pay a monthly visit to a donation center and host monthly yard sales.
