How to Create the Perfect Guest Room

Welcoming guests into your home means creating a space that makes them feel as if they are right at home. Whether it’s your in-laws, your parents, or great friends, you want to be sure anyone who stays in your guest room for a night or more feels comfortable. Think about what you love most when you travel. What do you love about hotel rooms or the guest rooms in which you stay? What do you dislike about them? Take answers from both questions, and use them to create the perfect space for anyone. You can also take these tips and apply them.

Start with the Basics

One of the most important things to focus on in your guest room is your bedding and mattress. You want your guests to sleep well at night, so sheets with a high thread count are always welcome. Try using a light duvet on top of the bed, and don’t forget to add throw pillows. Your guests might want those pillows if they’re planning on propping themselves up in bed at night to read before going to sleep.

Supply A Bathrobe and Slippers

If you have guests, why not provide them with something to make them comfortable during their stay? A simple bathrobe and a pair of slippers feel luxurious and welcoming. You can let them keep the robe, too. Inexpensive but comfortable robes are available online. They’re a wonderful gift to send home with your guests.

Create A Bathroom Basket

Whether your guest room has its own en-suite bathroom or they’re using a bathroom down the hall, a bathroom basket is a perfect accessory. Include all the necessary toiletries even if you suspect your guest will bring their own. Makeup wipes, razors, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, a nice loofah, and some fluffy towels make for a lovely gift basket to use in the bathroom. An extra toothbrush, toothpaste, and even Q-tips can add a little interest to your bag.

Create Space For Storage

If you don’t have a luggage rack, you should get one. Many guests prefer to keep their items in their luggage, but they need a place to store their luggage. You can pick one up online or at any big box store. You should also create space in the closet for storage. Add a few empty hangers for your guests to enjoy, and clean out some drawers for other items they might need.

Provide Wi-Fi Passwords

Your guests will love checking into your guest room to find a cute photo frame on the nightstand that includes your Wi-Fi password and a welcome note. You can even include a note that asks them to list their favorite coffee or fruit so you can be sure you have it on hand before morning arrives. This makes everyone feel welcome.

Add Candles

Not everyone likes the same scent, but that doesn’t mean you cannot create a wonderful smell in any guest room. Add a candle that has a neutral scent such as vanilla to the room. You can add a lighter or some matches so your guests can light it when they feel the need, but be sure it’s lit when they arrive. Not only does this allow your guests to come into a room that smells lovely, but it also allows them to have a little ambient lighting when they want it.

Create Ambient Lighting

Adding lamps or dimmer switches to your lights allows your guests a little more control over their environment. Not everyone loves to have bright lights on when they’re reading or when they’re getting ready for bed. A small lamp on the bedside table can make a big difference.

Your home is where you feel the most comfortable, and it only makes sense you want to make others feel comfortable, too. These tips are for you to use to help make guests feel more welcome. Use what you want, ignore what you don’t want, and add tips where you feel they make sense.
