As the days start to get longer and the trees are back in bloom, it’s time for us to brighten up our homes and get on with some Spring cleaning and redecorating. Give your kitchen a makeover with these top ideas for Spring 2021.
Add Pops of Colour
By adding flashes of colour into your kitchen you will brighten up the room and give the impression of a total revamp. It’s amazing what a lick of paint can do!
Encourage light into the space by introducing beautiful natural colours like yellows, greens, and pastels. Try lightening wood furnishings and upcycling cupboard doors by painting them a white or cream colour and give a rustic cottage vibe with shabby chic accents.
Think about colours that work well together and will compliment the space you have. If you have quite an art deco home, you might be able to get away with juxtaposing colours and create a feature in the centre of your kitchen.
If you prefer more neutral shades and a relaxed colour palette, consider light greys and warm beige tones.
Switch Up the Lighting
Adding new lighting and light features into your kitchen will not only brighten up the space, but it will add character and produce a new focal point. Consider pendant lighting, perfect for tying the room together – especially if you have high ceilings and worry that your lighting might become lost.
If you have a kitchen island try adding a row of hanging lights with Edison bulbs and rope above to highlight the area, add quirkiness and create a moody atmosphere when the sun is setting low.
Spotlights are an effective and inexpensive way of illuminating under cupboard spaces and skirting boards.
Introduce Natural Elements
Natural elements can help bring some of the outside in! Plants and flowers are a great way to add delicate beauty to a space, bring calm, and improve the oxygen circulation in the kitchen. You can adorn your windowsills with greenery and create your own tropical paradise right in your home. Plants are also ideal for introducing colour to your home if you prefer a more neutral and natural approach as opposed to bright and daring colours.
Natural elements don’t have to be plant based though! You can add dimension into your kitchen with different types of metals and woods incorporated throughout your appliances. For example, a set of new copper pots and pans along with a solid wood chopping board will give a rustic and earthy feel, whereas stainless steel cutlery and appliances will modernise the space and give a futuristic, sleek and clean outlook.
Accessorise with Artwork
Adding art into your kitchen will help with creating atmosphere and depth to the room. You can personalise your kitchen to your tastes this way and give visitors an introduction to what you are like as a person and what type of art interests you.
Try hanging frames and canvases on blank walls in dining areas to create focal points and things to spark conversation. Mirrors are also a great way of lightening up a kitchen and will reflect natural sunlight, opening the space you have and creating the illusion of a larger area.
Vases and sculptures are a fabulous way of adding themes and character to your kitchen and giving empty shelves or plain worktops a little bit more flair.
