How to Transform Your Backyard into An Oasis Retreat

How many times have you visited a family or friend, sat in their backyard and found yourself wishing your yard had some of that same beauty and elegance? Do you wish your yard was the one people flocked to because it’s so welcoming and relaxing? If your yard is going under-used and you’re ready to change that, then it’s time for a transformation to take place. Here we’ll take a look at how you can take your dull and drab yard and create an oasis-like retreat like no other.

Create a Defined Space for Entertaining

Usually, the first step in the transformation process is to create a defined space for entertaining or relaxing. This can be in the form of a patio, a deck, decorative stones or slabs, poured concrete or any other material that can be used as a hard surface.

Now that you’ve got a defined space, it’s time to add some seating. This is a feature that you want to take a little time with, and shop around. It’s more than just the budget that you should be concerned about; you always want to think about comfort, how much seating you’ll want/need, the materials used (is it weather-resistant) and the style of the furniture. This area will end up being the focal point of the backyard most likely, so you want to put effort into it.

Put Up a Fence and Enjoy Some Privacy

One of the top five ways to make your garden ideas a reality is to put up a fence. A fence can provide you with privacy, defines the space and depending on the material you choose, it can even add to the overall elegance and beauty. You can choose from chain link, ornamental iron, vinyl, wood or a white picket fence. Each one has a list of pros and cons so you’ll want to work through your choices and be sure you’re picking the one that matches your vision.

Trees and Greenery Give You of a Sense of Nature

Part of creating that oasis retreat vibe is to make sure it is surrounded by nature. If you lack trees and greenery, then now is the time to change that. There are plenty of low-maintenance options that are ideal for those who don’t want to have to spend hours a week pruning and weeding, yet still want to enjoy the greenery.

Appeal to Your Sense of Sound

Finally, one feature that doesn’t always get the credit it deserves is your sense of sound. The sounds in your yard can help to create a relaxing ambience, and sometimes nature needs a little help in that department. If you live in an area that can be a bit noisy – maybe you have a lot of neighbors close by or even a busy road out front – then use a water feature to help drown it out. Water features such as a small fountain or a little pond will give you a more relaxing sound to enjoy.

Using all of these tips will help you to transform your yard and make it into the dream retreat you’ve always wanted.
